Who or what am I called to?
Quote from Bolz Team on December 11, 2019, 10:33 pmSometimes people overthink this question or get tied to something too specific. Sometimes we have such a specific interpretation of a word that we're not adaptable or teachable in it. If a person says "I am going to marry this person" but God is showing a type of person rather than a specific person, it is easy for them to make that person an idol. We don't want to allow something so specific to become closely knit to our identity.
Shawn tells a story about a pastor who told him a prophet came and told them "You are going to buy a hotel that is right next to your church." They become fixated on this word but could not think of a reason why their church needed a hotel. So he asked God "Show us again if we haven't interpreted correctly what this means. But we want to know what your heart is for a general property for our ministry."
They laid it down and asked God specifically about real estate - same subject - but they believed that God had a purpose for it. The Lord didn't have the hotel for them but He did have a property for them that served a very specific purpose for their church. The one God gave them was a hotel prior but it was not right next to their church. It had a different and specific purpose for their congregation.
However, there are times when God gives us a very specific word. The house that Shawn and Cherie bought in Los Angeles came through extremely specific and detailed promises. Either way be open to the possibilities and don't get tied to one thing only. Those who feel called to acting may find that they dislike acting and are called to other aspects of the film industry. This process can take months or even years. So do not be so attached to the identity of what you are first seeing. Be willing to think about it on a broader scale as you seek the Lord.
